This video to audio AI adds sound to silent video. Upload a clip of up to 15 seconds and the model watches what happens on screen, then generates matching sound effects and ambience: waves on a beach, footsteps on gravel, rain on a window, a crackling fire, city traffic. You get your video back with the new audio track, in about 20 seconds.

Note that it creates new sound. It does not extract the existing soundtrack. It is ideal for silent clips from Text to Video AI and Image to Video AI, B-roll and screen recordings. For a sound effect from a text description, use the AI Sound Effects generator; for background music, the AI Music Generator.

How to use Video to Audio AI

  1. 1

    Upload a silent clip

MP4 or MOV up to 15 seconds and 50 MB. The audio is generated to match its length.

  2. 2

    Describe the sound (optional)

Leave it empty and the AI decides from what it sees, or add a hint like "waves crashing, seagulls, gentle wind".

  3. 3

    Generate and download

Usually ready in about 20 seconds: your video with a new sound track.

How the AI adds sound to video

The model looks at the frames of your clip, recognizes objects, places and movement, and generates audio that fits them in time. If a wave breaks on screen, you hear it break; if a car passes, the engine sound passes with it. The audio is generated to the exact length of your clip, and the video picture is not changed.

The optional prompt steers the result. Use it to:

  • Name the main sounds: "rain on a tin roof, distant thunder".
  • Set the mood: "quiet, calm forest ambience" or "busy market, lots of voices".
  • Add off-screen sound: "a dog barking in the distance".

Music is excluded by default, so you get sound effects and ambience that you can mix under your own soundtrack. For music, generate a track with the AI Music Generator and combine the two in your editor.

This is often called AI foley, after the film craft of recording everyday sounds to match picture. It will not replace a sound designer on a feature film, but for short clips it gets you believable sound in seconds instead of searching sound libraries.

Which clips work best

  • Clear action. Visible events such as splashes, footsteps, doors and vehicles give the model something to sync to.
  • Silent or nearly silent clips. If your video has important dialogue, keep that original track and mix the new ambience underneath in your editor.
  • Up to 15 seconds. Cut longer videos into parts and generate sound for each one.
  • AI video workflows. A common chain is Text to Video AI, then the AI Video Extender to make it longer, then this tool for sound, then the AI Video Upscaler for 1080p.

Speech is not the goal of this tool. For a voice-over, use the AI Voice Generator; for a face that speaks, use Lip Sync AI.

Very busy scenes with many things happening at once can lead to a crowded mix. In that case, use the prompt to name the one or two sounds that matter most, such as "footsteps and light wind", and let the rest stay quiet.

Clips longer than 15 seconds are not accepted, so trim or split them first. A short test on the key moment of a scene tells you quickly whether the AI hears it the way you do.

Price and daily free generation

Each clip costs $0.05. Signed-in users get one free generation a day on AI tools priced at $0.10 or less, and this tool qualifies. The free generation does not stack or roll over. After that, it is pay per use from your balance, with no subscription.

Failed generations are refunded automatically, and a failed free generation gives your free generation back. There is no watermark, and results are saved in My creations for 30 days.

At this price it is easy to try a few versions. Generate once without a prompt to hear what the AI picks up, then again with a short description if you want a different mood. Keep the version that fits your edit and mix it lower than dialogue or music so it sits in the background.

Only upload clips you have the right to use. The generated sound is new audio made for your clip, so there is no sample library to license.

Video to Audio AI FAQ

Still stuck? Contact us.

What is video to audio AI?

It is AI that generates sound for a video by analyzing its frames. It produces sound effects and ambience that match what happens on screen and line up with the timing.

Does it extract the audio from my video?

No. It creates a new audio track. If you only need to save the existing sound as an audio file, a regular video converter or editor is the right tool.

How much does it cost?

$0.05 per clip. Signed-in users also get one free generation a day on tools priced at $0.10 or less.

Does it add music?

No, it focuses on sound effects and ambience. Music is excluded by default. Use the AI Music Generator for a soundtrack.

How long can the video be?

Up to 15 seconds, as an MP4 or MOV under 50 MB.

Do I have to write a prompt?

No. The prompt is optional. Without one, the AI decides what sounds fit from the picture. A short hint of up to 300 characters helps when you want specific sounds.

What happens to the original audio?

The result uses the newly generated audio track. If you want to keep original dialogue, mix the new sound under it in your editor.

Can it generate speech or dialogue?

No. For voices, use the AI Voice Generator or AI Talking Photo.

Is it good for AI-generated videos?

Yes, it is one of the best uses. Many AI clips are silent or have generic sound, and this adds fitting ambience in seconds.

How is this different from AI Sound Effects?

The AI Sound Effects tool creates a sound from a text description only. Video to audio watches your clip and times the sound to the picture.

How long does it take?

Usually about 20 seconds for a clip of up to 15 seconds.

Why does the sound not match what I expected?

Without a prompt the AI guesses from the picture, and some scenes are ambiguous. Add a short description of the main sounds, like "light rain, distant traffic", and try again.

Can I use the sound in commercial videos?

You can use results under our Terms of Service and the model provider's license.

Is there an API?

Yes, video to audio is available through the RegiAI API at the same price. See the API docs.
