Quick access to the most commonly used image format conversions

This JPG to PNG converter saves your JPG or JPEG photos as lossless PNG files, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account to create, and the PNGs come out without a watermark.

A PNG copy is useful when an app or form insists on PNG, or when you plan to edit an image several times and do not want each save to add more JPG compression. One thing it will not do on its own is make the background transparent. For that, use the Background Remover. Going the other way? Use PNG to JPG.

How to use JPG to PNG Converter

  1. 1

Add your JPG or JPEG files

Drop up to 10 files on the box or click Add Files. Both .jpg and .jpeg extensions work.

  2. 2

    Leave PNG as the output

PNG is already selected, so there is nothing to set. The picture keeps its exact size in pixels.

  3. 3

    Convert and save

Press Convert, then use each Download button. Files keep their names with a .png ending.

What you can make

Edit without extra loss

Every JPG save recompresses the image. Work on a PNG copy and export to JPG once at the end.

Meet PNG-only uploads

Some app stores, game mods, sticker makers and print templates require PNG. Convert and upload.

Prepare for cut-outs

Start from a PNG before removing a background, so the transparent result can be saved in the same format.

Design and slide tools

Designers often keep assets as PNG so layers and overlays stack predictably in Figma, Canva or decks.

Add text or watermarks

Adding captions, logos or a watermark to a PNG avoids a second round of JPG artifacts around the new text.

Web and app assets

Developers sometimes need PNG for icons, favicon sources or asset pipelines that expect one format.

What a PNG copy of a JPG can and cannot do

PNG is a lossless format. Once your picture is a PNG, it can be opened, edited and saved again and again without getting worse. That is the main reason to convert JPG to PNG: it stops the damage. It does not undo it. Any blockiness, colour banding or halo around edges that the JPG already has is copied into the PNG pixel for pixel.

If the JPG looks rough, fix the image instead of the format. The AI Image Upscaler can add resolution, and AI Image Unblur can sharpen soft photos. Those are paid AI tools; this converter stays free.

Expect the file to get bigger. PNG compression is designed for flat colours and sharp edges, not the fine noise in photographs, so a 1 MB phone photo can become a 5 to 10 MB PNG. That is normal. If size matters more than editability, keep the JPG or convert to WebP.

JPG to PNG and transparency

Many people convert JPG to PNG hoping for a transparent background, because PNG supports transparency. The format allows it, but the conversion alone does not create it. A JPG never contains transparent pixels, so the PNG you get is fully opaque: a white background stays white.

To get a real transparent PNG, run the photo through the Background Remover, which detects the subject and deletes the rest. You can also crop first with Crop Image so the subject fills the frame.

Other details worth knowing: the PNG keeps the exact pixel dimensions of your JPG, colours are unchanged, and EXIF data such as camera model and GPS position is not carried over, since the browser writes a fresh file. If a program needs the original date taken, keep the JPG alongside the PNG.

When JPG to PNG is not the right move

Converting to PNG is a good idea for editing and for systems that demand PNG. It is a poor idea in a few common situations, and knowing them saves you from huge files that bring no benefit.

  • Putting photos on a website. A PNG photo can be ten times heavier than the JPG and slows the page down. Use JPG to WebP or JPG to AVIF for the web instead.
  • Sharing or emailing photos. JPG already opens everywhere. A PNG copy only adds size and may hit attachment limits.
  • Trying to sharpen a blurry or low-resolution image. PNG preserves pixels, it does not add them. Use an upscaler or unblur tool for that.
  • Printing photos. High-quality JPG is the standard for photo printing; a PNG looks the same on paper.

If a form requires PNG but also sets a size limit, reduce the dimensions first with Resize Image. For a transparent logo from a JPG, use the Background Remover, which saves a PNG with the background already removed.

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

Add your JPG files, keep PNG as the output format and press Convert. Download each PNG with its own button. No sign-up needed.

Is the JPG to PNG converter free?

Yes, completely. No account, no watermark and no daily limit. Convert up to 10 images per batch and run as many batches as you need.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so it preserves the image exactly as it is now, including existing JPG artifacts. It prevents further loss when you edit and save again.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency to carry over, so the PNG is opaque. Use the Background Remover to cut out the subject and get a transparent PNG.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores photos losslessly, which takes much more space than JPG. Three to ten times larger is typical for photographs. That is expected, not a bug.

Can I convert JPEG to PNG here too?

Yes. JPEG and JPG are the same format. Files ending in .jpeg are accepted exactly like .jpg.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. JPG to PNG conversion happens in your browser, so the photos stay on your device.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 10 per batch. Each one downloads separately. Reload the page to add a new set.

Does the PNG keep the same resolution?

Yes. Width and height in pixels are unchanged. Use Resize Image if you need a different size.

Does it keep EXIF data like date and location?

No. The PNG is a clean file without camera metadata or GPS location.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in Safari or Chrome on your phone, tap Add Files, choose your photos and save the PNGs after converting.

Should I use PNG or WebP?

Use PNG when a tool or site requires it or for lossless editing. For web pages, JPG to WebP gives much smaller files that still look like the original.

Can I convert a screenshot saved as JPG back to a crisp PNG?

Converting keeps it exactly as it is, including any blur around text from JPG compression. For crisp text, take a new screenshot, which most devices save as PNG.

Will the PNG print better than the JPG?

No. Both print the same, because the PNG contains the same pixels. Print quality depends on resolution, not on the format.
