This JPG to AVIF converter re-encodes your JPG and JPEG photos as AVIF, the most efficient image format that browsers widely support today. For web publishing, that often means photos at roughly half the size of the original JPG with no visible difference.
It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. AVIF is newer than WebP, so it is best for images you serve on a website rather than files you email or print. If you want wider app support, try JPG to WebP. Need to reverse it later? AVIF to JPG does that.
Drop up to 10 JPG or JPEG files, up to 20 MB each. Resize oversized originals first for the best savings.
AVIF is already selected. Your photos are sent to our server, which encodes the AVIF files.
Press Convert. AVIF encoding is heavier than JPG, so allow a few seconds per photo, then download each file.

Stores with dozens of photos per page save the most bandwidth by serving AVIF.
AVIF keeps smooth gradients like skies and skin tones clean at small file sizes.
Lighter article images help long reads load quickly on mobile data.
Frameworks and CDNs increasingly serve AVIF first. Convert source photos ahead of time.
Archiving web-ready copies as AVIF takes less space than JPG, while you keep the JPG masters elsewhere.
AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec. It uses far more modern compression than JPG, which dates from 1992, so it can describe the same photo with fewer bytes. In typical web use, AVIF photos come out around 40 to 60 percent smaller than comparable JPGs and often smaller than WebP too.
AVIF also handles the things JPG struggles with. Smooth gradients stay free of blocky banding, and text or sharp edges in a photo show less ringing. It supports transparency, HDR and wide colour as well, although a JPG source has no transparency to carry over.
This converter encodes at a high quality setting (85 on the AVIF scale), aimed at photos that look like the original. How much you save depends on the source. Large, lightly compressed camera JPGs shrink the most. A JPG that was already squeezed hard, such as a social media download, will not shrink as dramatically, because re-encoding cannot recover detail that is already gone. Resizing with Resize Image first often saves more than the format change itself.
All current major browsers display AVIF: Chrome and Firefox for several years, Safari from version 16, and Edge since early 2024. On a website, AVIF is safe for nearly all visitors. Very old browsers still in use can be covered with a JPG fallback in a picture element.
Outside browsers, support is patchier. Some image viewers, office programs, email clients and upload forms still do not open AVIF. Keep your original JPGs as masters and use AVIF for publishing.
How this page handles AVIF: browsers can display AVIF but most cannot create it, so this conversion is done on our server. Your photo is sent to RegiAI, encoded, and the AVIF is returned to your browser for download. Each file can be up to 20 MB. If you prefer processing that never leaves your device, JPG to WebP runs fully in the browser in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
