How to get the most accurate transcript
Accuracy depends mostly on the recording. The AI handles accents and fast speech well, but it cannot recover words that are buried in noise.
- Record close to the speaker. A phone held near the mouth beats a laptop mic across the room.
- Reduce background noise. Music, traffic and room echo lower accuracy. If there is music under the speech, separate the voice first with the AI Vocal Remover and keep the vocals.
- Set the language for short clips. Automatic detection works well on longer audio; for a few seconds of speech, choosing the language avoids mistakes.
- Compress very long files. The limit is 25 MB per file. An MP3 at 64 kbps fits about 50 minutes of speech; a WAV file fills 25 MB in a few minutes. Split longer recordings into parts.
- Proofread names and jargon. Brand names, rare surnames and technical terms are the most common errors.
Speakers with strong accents are usually transcribed well, but mumbling, whispering and crosstalk are not. If two people talk over each other, the transcript may drop or merge words from both.
What the transcript looks like
You get plain text: the words spoken, with punctuation, and no timestamps or speaker labels. That makes it easy to paste into a document, email, notes app or content tool.

The limit is file size, not minutes: 25 MB. An MP3 at 64 kbps holds about 50 minutes of speech. Split longer recordings, or export them at a lower bitrate.
Which languages does speech to text support?
About 100 languages with automatic detection. You can also pick the language manually, for example English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Turkish or Azerbaijani.
Can it translate audio into English?
Yes. Turn on Translate to English and the transcript comes back in English whatever language was spoken. It translates into English only; to dub speech into other languages, use the AI Audio Translator.
Does the transcript include timestamps or speaker names?
No. You get plain text. For timestamps, use the AI Subtitle Generator (SRT) or the YouTube Transcript Generator.
How accurate is it?
Very good on clear recordings, including most accents. Accuracy drops with heavy background noise, overlapping speakers, distant microphones and very poor phone lines. Always proofread names, numbers and technical terms before you publish or share the text.
Can I transcribe a video file?
Upload the audio track. Export the audio from your video in any editor first. For video subtitles, the AI Subtitle Generator accepts video directly.
Can I transcribe a YouTube video?
If the video has captions, the free YouTube Transcript Generator is faster and needs no sign-in.
What happens if transcription fails?
The $0.05 is refunded to your balance automatically, or your free generation is returned for the day. If a file keeps failing, try converting it to MP3 first.
Can I transcribe a phone call or voice memo?
Yes. Export the recording as MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG and upload it. Voice memos from iPhone (M4A) and Android work directly.
Can I transcribe music lyrics?
It works best on speech. For songs, separate the vocals first with the AI Vocal Remover, then transcribe the vocal track. Sung lyrics are still less accurate than speech.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Sign in with Google to transcribe files. The daily free file and pay-per-use pricing are tied to your account.
